Working for optimal channel depth for a constricted canal
Problem Statement
A canal, 8m wide, is
planned to supply water to the agricultural land in a rural area. Maximum possible flow is 13m3/s through
the canal. Due to some site-specific issues,
its width has to be reduced consistently from 8m to 5m from point A to D as
shown in the figure below. As a hydraulic design engineer, you are asked to check
if the proposed depth (1.3m) of the channel
is sufficient. The canal is concrete lined so Manning’s n can be assumed to be
0.012. The slope is smooth and is 0.003.
Solution
You have to do following steps on HEC – RAS to get required data.
